Star Wars villain the Grand Inquisitor has been revealed in the new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, and it’s Rupert Friend.
One of the things that stood out for us in the trailer is the reveal of the live-action versions of the Inquisitorius. The only time we’ve seen inquisitors before was in the animated show Star Wars Rebels (2014), and in the video game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order (2019).
The first appearance of an Inquisitor was in Star Wars: Clone Wars in the episode “The Wrong Jedi” (2013). At the time, the inquisitor was a temple guard.
They are Force-sensitive former Jedis who have surrendered to the Galactic Empire during the Jedi purge (aka Order 66).

The Grand Inquisitor is also known as Master of the Inquisitorius. In the animated series, the Grand Inquisitor was voiced by Jason Isaacs. Inquisitors are meant to hunt down all the remaining Jedi. Inquisitors are just as dangerous as Darth Vader.
They have all the abilities of a dark Jedi, the only thing that they don’t have is the title of “Sith.”
Not only that, we saw the Grand Inquisitor. And it turns out to be Friend. Just a few weeks ago, it was reported that his role was unknown. The trailer revealed his true role as one of the most feared villains in Star Wars history.
Friend is well known for his role as Peter Quinn in Homeland (2012-2017). He has also worked in movies like At Eternity’s Gate (2018), The Death of Stalin (2017), and Starred Up (2013).

The Grand Inquisitor’s look threw me off a bit, mainly because I didn’t see the glowing yellow eyes which are quite noticeable in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. But the general appearance is unmistakable. Mainly because of the markings on his face, and there is a subtle look that resembles him as a Pau’an which has that distinctive vertical lines on his head. And the Grand Inquisitor used his unique dual lightsaber that spins, which was highlighted in the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer.
It’s been a long wait since we last saw Ewan McGregor as the popular Jedi in the prequel trilogy. He was one of the highlights of the trilogy and he looked the part too. He was a believable young Obi-Wan, he also has that accent as well. Now he’s back and we can’t wait to see the new series.
Will we see a face to face battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Grand Inquisitor?
