Spider-Man to Connect With Sony’s Marvel Movies

There are plans to connect Spider-Man with Sony’s Marvel films.

Ever since Spider-Man showed up in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War, all of us wondered what’d happen with Sony’s other Spider-Verse characters.

Spider-Man and all its characters are in kind of a joint custody between Sony and Marvel.

Spider-Man can be used by Marvel Studios, but all his related IPs can be utilized by Sony.

It’s obvious that Sony doesn’t want to let go of the Spider-Man brand.

Regardless of the performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it still can generate a lot of money for them.

After all, Sony made the popular villain Venom into an anti-hero and a billion-dollar franchise.

Venom starred Tom Hardy and was popular enough to warrant a sequel subtitled Let There Be Carnage (September 2021) with Woody Harrelson as the main villain.

Sony even immediately worked on Morbius starring Jared Leto; the film is scheduled to show in January 2022.

Even though Morbius and the Venom sequels haven’t been released yet, they are already working on Kraven the Hunter (January 2023) starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

During the Morbius trailer, we see a wall art of Spider-Man; that somehow acknowledges that there is or was a Spider-Man in Sony’s own universe.

At the end of the same trailer, we got to see Michael Keaton; moreover, it seemed that he was reprising his role as the Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

This really made it seem confusing to pretty much everyone who has been following Marvel.

Does this mean that Morbius, Venom, and other Sony-locked characters are in the same universe as the MCU?

Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch revealed that:

There actually is a plan. I think now maybe it’s getting a little more clear for people where we’re headed and I think when No Way Home comes out, even more will be revealed.

If you have been reading up on our scoops, it’s practically out there already, Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 2021) will be dealing with the multiverse.

Alfred Molina admitted it’s “the worst kept secret in Hollywood.”

This will open up the possibility that the world where Venom, Morbius, Carnage, Kraven and more will merge with the Marvel Universe.

In addition, it’s possible that it doesn’t have to use the multiverse to combine them.

They could all fit into the MCU.

Panitch explained that:

We don’t really think of our 900 characters as the Spidey-verse. We have a Marvel universe. The volume of characters we have — you know, wait until you see this next Venom. You don’t miss Spider-Man. It’ll be exciting if they do meet, right?

Nevertheless, we have heard that Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis has confirmed that his movie is not set in the MCU.

He should know since he did star in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther.

So, it’s either he’s not allowed to say anything or there is a multiverse involved.

Panitch also confirmed that Sony is pleased with their Marvel Studios partnership.

The great thing is we have this very excellent relationship with [Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige]. There’s an incredible sandbox there to play with. We want those MCU movies to be absolutely huge, because that’s great for us and our Marvel characters, and I think that’s the same thing on their side. But we have a great relationship. There’s lots of opportunities, I think, that are going to happen.

I’m just thrilled to learn that there is a plan to merge the Sony’s characters with that of Marvel Studios.

It seems that Panitch is aware of the value of having them together rather than being separated.

I do have to admit that the universe where Venom resides doesn’t have that interest in me.

However, once I learned that there might be a connection to the MCU, it made it more exciting for me to watch the Morbius and Kraven.

It’s possible that there are a lot of people that think the same way, too.

Sony realizes that.

Ultimately, it does seem that Sony is here for the long haul.
