Spider-Man Noir swings to Amazon Prime in live action, and it already sounds better than Sony’s usual fare. When it comes to Sony’s Spider-Man franchise outside their deal with Marvel Studios, the results end up being hit-or-miss. Especially the spin-offs. Actually, the spin-offs have more or less all been misses with only one exception.

Apart from the Oscar winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, all of Sony’s live-action spin-offs have been critical flops. Granted, the Venom franchise energized cash registers. On the other hand, they lowered I.Q.’s.

Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped the studio from moving ahead with their hopes for a shared cinematic universe. Despite the colossal failure of Morbius, Sony still has plans to release multiple spin-off films.

Two of which are currently filming: Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter. Moreover, they’re also beginning to branch out into TV to help further build out their growing universe. A few years ago, Variety revealed that a TV show centered around the Spider-Verse character Silk was in the works.

In November 2022, Sony titled it Silk: Spider Society.

Furthermore, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller became producers for the project. Amazon will release the program via their streaming service, Prime Video.

In addition, they’ve just announced that a second Amazon Prime TV series from the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man Noir is in development.

For many, Spider-Man Noir’s appearance in Into the Spider-Verse stood out. Which isn’t a surprise. Hollywood legend Nicholas Cage brilliantly voiced Spider-Man Noir.

Moreover, Lord and Miller will once again return to produce this upcoming TV adaptation. Variety were the ones to break this unexpected story and provided a brief description about the upcoming spin-off.

It reads:

“The untitled series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. An individual with knowledge of the project says that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.”

The setting and tone are already accurate to its source material; that is sure to excite fans. After all, Sony isn’t known for comic accuracy in its live-action adaptations. Nevertheless, the fact that it won’t be Peter Parker under the black mask and fedora will undoubtedly leave everyone confused.

Spider-Man Noir’s alter-ego is Peter Parker in the comics, albeit a version of the character who lives in the ’30s.

So who will be this universe’s web-slinger? Already there’s been a lot of speculation.

Sony doesn’t have the rights to use Ben Urich from the comic books. Thus, most are leaning towards an entirely new character. In Vol. 1 of Spider-Man Noir, Urich is a photojournalist known as ‘The Spider’ and is also a mentor to Parker. They’ll need to tweak this for Amazon.

Hopefully we’ll see what’s in store in the coming months.
