It’s March 3rd and it’s the final day to turn in your votes for the Oscar Fan-Favorite Award and Spider-Man: No Way Home is in position to win.

After gaining only one nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 94th Academy Awards, Spider-Man: No Way Home proves it is a heavy weight in winning fans hearts.

The movie is present in both fan favorite awards namely the #OscarsFanFavorite and the #OscarsCheerMoment. Both are the newly announced awards to be given this year.

The twitterverse is quite amped for the two awards up for grabs.

As fans are so disappointed that the Spidey movie in 2021 did not get as much notice from the academy, they are now bent on showing that Spider-Man: No Way Home deserves nominations.

The awards are given to those who win via votes among their peers. Meaning: Best Actor and Best Actress Awards are voted by actors and actresses. Best Director is voted by directors and so on. These are winners hailed by people who not only appreciate but more importantly understand the hard work it all entails. The ones who vote for the winner are the people who share the experience one way or another.

The ones who nominate and get nominated doesn’t depend on commercial success and what the public says. There is even the time that movies or performances get increased interests among viewers because of the nomination and most especially the award. Having a nomination alone elevates the calibre of performance in the profession.

For a time, superhero movies do not get critical attention to earn a nomination for Best Picture. That was until Black Panther. Best Picture is the most coveted award in the Academy. Black Panther proved to the world that a superhero movie can have content and delivery on par with any critically acclaimed films.

Certain elements to a movie checks out as a Best Picture Nominee. These conditions may be a mix of social relevance, an exemplary of moral values, a mirror to life struggles and thought-provoking content.

There are winners who aren’t the popular choice among fans. This is why there is a disconnect among award-giving bodies and audience impression especially with the Academy. The problem is, if the audience is always disappointed on who gets nominated and who wins, who will be left to watch the movies made? At the same time, if the audience always bear a weight of considerable influence, how can artistic value dare to be more impactful?

Reports say that the fan favorite categories are introduced this year to address the decline in ratings for the Academy Award show. Online content and reaction say it is a way for Oscars to make itself relevant again so that they’d get to keep dictating what is the best in the industry.

Times have truly changed and the Academy has to change things up as well. Superhero movies are popular and these movies have leveled themselves up in actors’ performances, cinematography, screenplay, editing and all aspects of film that they also deserve to be noticed. Perhaps these two fan favorite awards are their next step.

Awards or not, Spider-Man: No Way Home has already proven itself a winner.
