Sasha Calle's Supergirl Will Sadly Be One And Done

Sasha Calle won’t return as Supergirl in the DCU. Without a doubt, Sasha Calle’s presence in The Flash trailer has created a tremendous buzz. However, don’t get used to her. In fact, as Soft Cell once sang, “Say hello, wave goodbye.”

The Flash trailer finally made its worldwide premiere during Sunday’s Super Bowl. It’s safe to say that it was undoubtedly worth the wait. Moreover, even those who were skeptical about the movie were blown away by its electrifying footage.

Despite the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller, The Flash stands a strong chance of becoming one of DC’s most successful films to date. However you may feel about Miller, there’s no denying they’ve given a stellar performance as the scarlet speedster.

Whether or not this’ll be their last time portraying the character remains to be seen. It depends on The Flash‘s box-office performance. Nonetheless, the biggest standouts from the trailer had to be the two main supporting characters: Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl.

The former of which brought fans of Tim Burton’s Batman films back in time to their childhoods. That beautiful rendition of Danny Elfman’s iconic theme would make anyone feel nostalgic. In addition, Sasha Calle completely stole the show with each second she was onscreen as the new live-action Supergirl.

Her role in the plot appears to match Superman’s role in the universally acclaimed Flashpoint storyline from the comics. For Sasha Calle, that isn’t good news. Flashpoint serves as the main source of inspiration for the movie. Like Superman, Supergirl is being held prisoner in a fortified facility with no access to sunlight.

Thus draining her cells of solar radiation and leaving her powerless. The Flash, his multiverse doppelgänger and Keaton’s Batman mount a desperate rescue mission to free the captive Kryptonian. It goes without saying that we’re all excited to see Sasha Calle soar through the sky as Supergirl.

Unfortunately, this will only be a one-off appearance for this version of the Girl Of Steel. A spin-off film starring Sasha Calle was in the works over at Warner Bros. before being scrapped.

Nevertheless, a new Supergirl movie is still on the way. Unfortunately, their origins don’t march. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn the story of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as such:

“Within our story, we have Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents and nurtured, whereas Kara was in Krypton, she was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet, and lived there for the first 14 years of her life among [a] horrible situation where she watched everybody around her die. So she’s a much harsher and more fuc*ed up Supergirl than we’ve been used far.”

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow was one of the 10 projects Gunn announced for the DCU’s first chapter. Judging from the synopsis, this is a different Supergirl; therefore, they’ll recast Sasha Calle. Tom King wrote the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book that the picture will lift elements from.

Ironically, Gunn won’t continue the SnyderVerse. In addition, SnyderVerse icons such as Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman have no place in the DCU. Yet this Supergirl movie sounds dark as Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Previously we reported that there were even plans to have Calle’s Supergirl meet Henry Cavill’s Superman during the movie. Furthermore, a scene between Cavill and Calle was even filmed during reshoots. Tragically this scene has been edited out of the film’s final cut following the formation of DC Studios.

There were also reports that the planned Man Of Steel sequel would’ve seen the pair finally team up. We almost had it all.
