Sam Raimi is in talks to direct Tobey Maguire in a new Spider-Man film. According to a new report, Sony seeks Tobey Maguire and Raimi to reunite for a Spider-Man sequel.
However, the leak cannot confirm if the project would take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Tobey Maguire has been rumored to appear in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Sam Raimi is directing the latter.
I have been reporting on the previous Spider-Mans Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield coming to the MCU since 2019.
According to the rumor, Sony has offered a deal to both Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi.
From my perspective, there seems to be unfinished business for both.
2007’s Spider-Man 3 was a huge box-office success; $895 million worldwide is an impressive chunk of cash.
Nevertheless, Spider-Man 3 was creatively a notch down from the highs of 2002’s Spider-Man and 2004’s Spider-Man 2.
Sam Raimi And Tobey Maguire May Reunite In New Spider-Man Film
Fans complained about Topher Grace’s portrayal of Venom and Tobey Maguire’s… dancing.
There were too many villains in the movie and Grace was miscast.
The report explained that:
The studio wants this to be a multiverse spinoff so we assume there will be some acknowledgment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there may not be any direct appearances from any of those characters. This project would stand on its own two legs.
My own sources said that Sony does want this to go forward.
But it depends on how well Spider-Man: No Way Home performs.
I had also scooped over a year ago that Tobey Maguire could perish at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness; it would be his Endgame and Raimi’s, too, for Spider-Man.
Insiders add that Sony would most likely turn this into a Spider-Verse movie.
Having Tobey Maguire go solo again could confuse audiences with a non-Tom Holland film also called Spider-Man.
