Report: Anna Paquin Returns As Rogue In Deadpool 3

Written by Edwin Francisco

Anna Paquin might return to play the mutant Rogue, joining Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in Marvel’s Deadpool 3.

Paquin portrayed Rogue in the X-Men franchise. She’s even one of the most important characters in the Bryan Singer films. In terms of storyline, hers is just as important as Jackman’s Wolverine. It’s just sad to see that she was put on the sidelines in director Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand. And she only showed up in a cameo scene in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Even though she had a bigger scene which production deleted in the last film, it’s just sad to see how small her role got along the way.

It looks like Anna Paquin will get her limelight again as Rogue in a report from Giant Freakin Robot. They say she will be appearing as the power-absorbing mutant in Deadpool 3. That said, we don’t know how big of a role she’ll play when she gets back. GFR also reported other actors may come back, too, including James Marsden (Cyclops), Halle Berry (Storm), and Patrick Stewart (Professor X).

On top of it all, there are also reports that state that the film is to also have Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius. So far, this new Deadpool film feels like an X-Men/Loki crossover. Production has confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be set in the MCU. But the question is: who will survive getting there?

Everyone knows that Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine. But we don’t know if he’ll end up in the MCU, or if he plans to return to his universe.

So, where does Rogue fit in this? Based on the rumored casting, it does seem that they are bringing back the original X-Men cast. And it would be important to see Rogue somehow, because that’s how we got our introduction to Fox’s X-Men universe in 2000. We saw the world through Rogue’s eyes since she was a newcomer to the world of mutants. In The Last Stand, it was highly disappointing because it presumed that she was happier without her powers. The deleted scene in Days of Future Past would have given her another action sequence of her own. But it also meant that her powers still returned, and we are still unsure if she’s happy with her having powers or not.

It would make sense to have Anna Paquin return in Deadpool 3. If we are going back to the world of the X-Men, I hope they give her that proper end to her story arc.
