Netflix Reportedly Signs Zack Snyder To Exciting New Deal

Netflix has reportedly signed director Zack Snyder to a new deal. While this is happening, the filmmaker is trending again on Twitter with the #SellZSJLToNetflix campaign.

Via YouTube scooper Syl Abdul, Netflix has given Snyder an extension. Abdul revealed:

“I’m hearing #netflix ALREADY has Zack Snyder locked into a new MULTI-YEAR deal. Waiting on more details.”

A few days ago, Snyder posted a mysterious video with the voice of Darkseid, Ray Porter. Porter was Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Speculation exploded about what Snyder’s clip meant. A number of fans believed Snyder was teasing his return to DC. Unfortunately, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn’s reset destroys that possibility. In addition, Ben Affleck shot down his participation in any future DC Studios project.

However, that’s DC Studios. Netflix is another matter. YouTube personality Skiiwalker Tha Jedi created the #SellZSJLToNetflix hashtag in January. Since then, it has dominated social media, namely Twitter. Without a doubt, it sucked the air out of the room for Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Per TMZ:

“James Gunn’s new DCU has yet to see the light of day — and shedding the old guard is proving brutal … both at the box office and on Twitter, where it’s all Zack Snyder all day.”

On Rotten Tomatoes, critics hurled poor scores at the Zachary Levi sequel. The movie sits at 53% among reviewers. Critic Joseph Todd shared his own unimpressed thoughts in Geekosity. He wrote:

Zachary Levi proves, without a doubt, that he was disastrously miscast as this still unnamed version of DC’s Captain Marvel. His acting is hammy, corny, and cranked up to over-the-top levels of cheesiness, making the first Shazam! film seem like a masterpiece by comparison.”

Although the RT audience grade is significantly higher at 87%, the seats are virtually empty. Shazam! 2 is tracking for an anemic $30 million opening weekend in the U.S.  That’s a 44% drop from Shazam!

Ouch.

There’s been a noticeable lack of buzz for Shazam! Fury of the Gods for months now. Warner Bros. Discovery tried to jolt DC followers by spoiling Gal Gadot’s cameo as Wonder Woman. Clearly, it didn’t work.

Although there is no obvious boycotting of non-Snyder DC movie at play, the rebellion is felt in these dismal numbers. Warner Bros. Discovery is trying to replace Snyder’s absence with work that the polarized DC base has no or little passion for.

On April 28-30, Snyder will screen all three of his DCEU films, one per day. The first two, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will show at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. However, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be in an IMAX setting. The latter’s location hasn’t been announced yet.

Insiders expect Snyder to show the missing footage of Wayne T. Carr as the John Stewart Green Lantern on the final day.

Essentially, this is Snyder Con 2. On March 22-24, 2019, Snyder Con happened at the Art Center College of Design. Welcome to the sequel. On the other hand, as thrilling as it would be to finally view ZSJL in IMAX, the larger question lingers like a giant cloud.

Will #SellZSJLToNetflix happen?

Abdul added that “I still haven’t personally heard MYSELF if Netflix has/will pursue SnyderVerse DC.” Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that they won’t. When I scooped The Snyder Cut in November 2019, everyone said it either didn’t exist or wouldn’t happen. Often such information is locked behind closed doors. Until it’s leaked to one person and it spreads like wildfire.

My sources tell me that there’s too much money left on the table for both parties if they don’t do it.
