Official merchandise labels Ezra Miller’s The Flash as “two idiot kids.” Without a doubt, this will trouble fans who expect more serious DCU fare. Due to Ezra Miller’s legal issues, many remain on the fence about the film. Certainly, this doesn’t help.

In 2021, director Andy Muschietti used basically the same language in a leaked promo video. It concerned DCU followers then. Now a new shirt doubles down.

Marketing for the upcoming DCU film The Flash is slowly ramping up with the Comic-Con Experience 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Flash is still a few months away, but usually at this time, fans expect merchandise and advertising to start soon. Which is why there has been an updated logo recently. Also, DC Studios has a setup at CCXP. And just recently, we’ve reported that Superman featured in the poster in the event.

I do find it strange that the Flash is not on the large poster they have on display. Nonetheless, Warner Bros. Discovery has issued official merchandise. A Twitter post from DCU Argentina posted a picture of the promotional shirt for sale at the event. At first glance, there’s nothing really special about it. It’s just the logo of the new film which we highlighted previously. Below that it writes:

Saving the Future and the Past :: Multiverse.

But there are small other logos at the bottom right of the shirt. The Flash logo with x2, the Batman logo and a Superman/Supergirl logo. And interestingly has the following description in text:

Two idiot kids, a retired vigilante, and a half charged solar powered alien.

We’re not really sure why both versions of The Flash would warrant the label “idiot.” But I think there are a lot of people who would think about who Ezra Miller is and what he’s going through. In any case, it’s a fun take on the two main leads who messed up the DC multiverse. Because of what they have done, they need the help of other heroes. Namely, Sasha Calle’s Supergirl (the alien) and Michael Keaton’s Batman (the retired vigilante).

It’s no secret that the film will be loosely based on Flashpoint. The comic book, which Geoff Johns wrote with Andy Kubert’s art, was a major turning point for DC Comics. It’s a favorite of many. In fact, the comics has an animated movie, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. And in The Flash TV series on The CW starring Grant Gustin. The premise is generally the same. The Flash went back in time to save his mother, and this caused major changes in the universe’s history.

The TV version was a fun take on changing the personality of familiar characters. Nonetheless, it was the original comic that had a major impact on many. A new version of Batman, no one knows who Superman is, and there is a war between the Amazons and the Atlanteans.

Regardless of which version you see. The blame is still on the Flash, Barry Allen. Who just can’t let go of the death of his mother. And because of his actions of reversing time and saving his mother, everything he knows has changed.

Still, will the film be respectful to its roots? Possibly, but the “two idiot kids” in the marketing throws that into question.
