Casting has proven to be very challenging for villains for any franchise. Actors can have second thoughts about such roles. Indeed, the possibility of typecasting exists.
Still, villains always make or break the story.
Even if an actor looks the part, it’s no guarantee.
After all, the performance may not be fearsome enough.
On the contrary, there is also the possibility of getting too over-the-top.
Thus, the character becomes just two-dimensional.
Recent successful writings show that a nemesis has to have a fleshed-out origin.
An origin story that requires an actor to be able to deliver different dimensions of the character.
This is something Marvel Studios wants for Mephisto.
The word is, Marvel sees Giancarlo Esposito as one who can fulfill these requirements for Mephisto.

Certainly, Giancarlo Esposito can fill Mephisto’s shoes in Marvel.
The new question is: Will he accept it?
