Marvel Studios’ Nova Could Just Be A Disney Plus Special

Marvel Studios’ Nova project will be a Special Presentation and not a series. In other words, Marvel Studios will give Nova the Werewolf by Night treatment.

Just this March, Marvel Studios confirmed Moon Knight’s Sabir Pirzada as its writer. Most likely due to Werewolf by Night‘s impressive reception, Nova could be next. Granted, this isn’t official; rather, The Cosmic Circus published the rumor.

A Special Presentation is like a bridge between a miniseries and a full-length feature. A lot of character and story elements can be jam-packed into a Special Presentation. This is because it’s longer than an episode of a series. Also, it won’t have to take up six or more episodes to complete its tale. A Special Presentation is also more cost-effective. After all, it will only grab a fraction of a theatrical budget.

We have been reporting the progress of Nova in the MCU. Geekosity chief Mikey Sutton scooped Nova coming to the MCU in 2019. Also, Edwin Francisco already toyed with the idea of Nova being in another special. Namely, James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Although it was just speculation, it would be interesting.

Then this year, Nova went truly nova when Deadline confirmed his project at Marvel Studios. No specific details are available yet. Pirzada is actively developing the story and script. So far, it ends there. With more than one Nova in the comics, which one will the MCU introduce?

Our sources continue to push Marvel Studios will select Richard Rider. Certainly, it makes sense. Marvel Studios respects its comic-book history. And Rider became the first Nova.

So far, reception to this news and production development is highly positive. Nova is due. Overdue for some, in fact. However, whether it’s Rider or Sam Alexander, fans highly welcome Nova in the MCU.

A Nova one-shot can cover a time before Avengers: Infinity War. The MCU already introduced the Nova Corps in the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Perhaps the Marvel Special Presentation can feature the days before Thanos came for the Nova Corps.

It would be an interesting profile story for Nova before he arrives in the MCU Earth 616.
