James McAvoy is being looked at to play Darkhawk in the MCU. According to a new report, Marvel Studios wants him for Darkhawk.
On the surface, it seems like an odd fit.
After all, James McAvoy is 42.
Darkhawk is much younger in the comics.
Then again, Marvel Studios can tweak him.
Furthermore, James McAvoy is an acclaimed actor. He can bring gravitas to an obscure character.
Indeed, James McAvoy did just that with another Marvel character.
James McAvoy played the younger version of Professor X in Fox’s X-Men films. He debuted as Professor X in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.
James McAvoy was able to distinguish himself from Patrick Stewart.
For many, Stewart was Professor X.
Nevertheless, James McAvoy brought his own voice to the character.
He could do the same for Darkhawk.
In fact, since nobody has played Darkhawk before, it’s his to define.
Marvel Studios Looking At James McAvoy To Play Darkhawk

Writer Tom DeFalco and artist Mike Manley co-created him for Darkhawk No. 1 in 1991.
Of all Marvel superheroes, Darkhawk has been among the most speculated for the MCU.
Darkhawk was a favorite of ’90s kids. After all, he was a teenager like them. He is also familiar to those who play video games.
In November 2020, I scooped that Disney Plus was planning a Darkhawk show.
At the time, Darkhawk was intended to be Nova’s BFF.
Given that Nova is also a teenage cosmic hero, it’d make sense.
However, if this is accurate, that was changed.
Certainly, James McAvoy is twice Nova’s age.
Of course, none of this has been confirmed yet.
Nevertheless, in the comics Darkhawk shared adventures with Starfox and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
In other words, the MCU connections are easy to thread together.
Harry Styles played Starfox in a post-credits scene for Eternals.
Although Marvel Studios has been quiet about their Starfox plans, Darkhawk could be one.
Certainly Styles and James McAvoy would make an outstanding acting combo.
With ’90s nostalgia kicking in, Darkhawk is a smart move for Marvel Studios.
Darkhawk screams ’90s.
Even his name is about as ’90s as it gets.
Still, there is creative potential here. Darkhawk is visually appealing.
Give him the right actor like James McAvoy, and he could soar.
