Marvel Studios’ Blade Reboot Lands Director

Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot has landed its director.

It’s been months since we heard any significant news about the progress of Blade in which Mahershala Ali is starring in.

It was reported that the film would schedule their shoot in September of this year, but it seems doubtful since they still haven’t found a director then.

But now Deadline reported that Marvel Studios has chosen Blade’s director: Bassam Tariq.

Tariq is best known for his work on Mogul Mowgli.

He is currently in talks with Marvel Studios to helm the film.

If you are not familiar with the Tariq, that is because Marvel Studios is known for scouting fresh new talent, especially with directors.

Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder), Nia DaCosta (The Marvels) and Chloe Zhao (Eternals) were relatively new directors when they got into Marvel Studios.

Tariq is considered is an up-and-coming director.

He is known for his documentaries and short films, but his standout directorial work is the film drama, Mogul Mowgli.

The movie was released in 2020.

It starred Riz Ahmed.

The movie tells the story of a British-Pakistani rapper based in New York who was diagnosed with a degenerative autoimmune disease just before he goes on a European tour.

Blade is currently written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour.

Marvel Studios announced that she will be writing the film last February 2021.

Osei-Kuffour is known for her work in the TV series Watchmen (HBO) and PEN15 (Hulu).

Blade was popularized by New Line Cinema with Wesley Snipes as the titular vampire in the 1998 film.

It was so financially successful that it spawned two sequels, Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004).

Snipes was originally discussed to return as Blade until it was decided to make a fresh start with Ali.

Ali is not new to Marvel. He played Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in the Marvel Netflix TV series Luke Cage.

He also did the voice of Aaron Davis a.k.a. The Prowler in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

He won two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor: Moonlight (2016) and Green Book (2018).

Eric Brooks, also known as Blade, was co-created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan.

He first appeared in The Tomb of Dracula No. 10 in 1973.

Blade is born half-vampire or Dhampir.

He has all of the strengths of the vampire but none of their weaknesses.

Even though Blade is already being developed, this is not part of the Phase IV movie line up.

There is no scheduled date for the movie’s release.
