Loki Episode Teases the Silver Surfer’s MCU Future

Loki‘s third episode hinted at Silver Surfer‘s future in the MCU.

In “Lamentis,” Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his fellow variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) landed on a doomed moon.

On the surface, Loki dropped a cool Easter Egg.

It’s more than that.

The moon, Lamentis-1, has roots in 2007’s Annihilation: Conquest Prologue No. 1. Although the moon didn’t appear, its planet, Lamentis, did.

In the comics, the Lamentis Outworld rests in between two warring extraterrestrial groups: the Annihilation Wave and the Phalanx.

The Fantastic Four villain Annihilus leads the former.

It’s a massive, destructive army that ripped worlds apart.

The Phalanx, on the other hand, are a technologically advanced hive mind with ties to the X-Men. (They killed mutants, part of their programming.)

I originally scooped Annihilation as an upcoming Marvel Studios movie on May 25, 2020.

I leaked it on the private Geekosity Facebook page as this site didn’t exist yet. Lords of the Longbox covered it here. I updated it on May 9.

This is what I wrote:

In this proposed epic, Warlock will collaborate with other cosmic superheroes, including Quasar, Moondragon, and Captain Marvel against Annihilus, Galactus, and Terrax the Tamer. The project is in the earliest stages of discussion so it remains to be seen how closely it will echo its comics predecessor.

Along with Secret Wars, Loki teased two upcoming films in the MCU.

The Silver Surfer is an integral part of Annihilation.

He teamed up with other former heralds of Galactus to battle the Annihilation Wave.

However, it’s doubtful that Marvel Studios’ version would include Firelord and Air-Walker.

After all, they need to introduce the Silver Surfer first.

It doesn’t seem likely that Marvel Studios will find space to add those other heralds.

It will be some years before the Silver Surfer appears again on the silver screen.

Moreover, it won’t be on Loki on Disney Plus.

Loki continues to surprise with its emotional depth and plot developments.

Many expected WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier to plant the most seeds for the MCU’s future.

It was Loki all along.
