Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter has responded to Jon Bernthal’s Instagram post confirming his MCU return as The Punisher. A majority of viewers would say that the Marvel focuses mainly on more family friendly content overall.
Not true.
A good few movies from the MCU haven’t been shy to tread into more darker territory. Just look at Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness for example.
In addition, the Disney Plus shows have also had their fair share of more mature moments. WandaVision saw the MCU begin to delve into the horror genre with some creative jump scares.
Moreover, Moon Knight featured scenes of child abuse and a man being dissected alive by a zombie like creature. Nonetheless this isn’t actually the darkest that a Marvel movie or TV series has dared to go before.
This is where the Netflix shows come in.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher. Undoubtedly, Daredevil and The Punisher were the most violent and gory projects that Marvel have ever put to screen.
After all, they’re among the first of the franchise’s few R-rated adaptations so far. Nevertheless, neither could match the grittiness of Jessica Jones, quite possibly one of the darkest TV shows out there.
The first season is rightfully considered to be one of best out of all of Marvel’s Netflix series. Lead actress Krysten Ritter became one of TV’s most badass and beloved heroines over night.
Everyone and their mother wants to see her return as the hardened private investor in the MCU. Ritter herself is even hoping to receive that call from Marvel Studios.
When asked about revisiting the character, she said:
“I would absolutely just die to play Jessica again. I had the best time doing it and I just love her so much. I’m so proud of that character. Not only because it was like a great role and she’s such a badass, but that character has really resonated with people in a way that I don’t know who else has. Really, really resonated with women and girls, trauma survivors. It’s just so, so big and such a thing I’m so grateful to have been a part of. So if there’s ever an opportunity for me to put on those boots, I will be there in a flash.”
Recently The Hollywood Reporter announced that Jon Bernthal would be reprising his role as the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. Bernthal would later confirm this via his Instagram with a picture of him as the brutal Marvel hero.
Furthermore, Ritter responded to her fellow Marvel stars post with a flame emoji. Of course this has sparked further speculation around her own potential return to the MCU.

While this could be true, it may just simply be a message of support for Bernthal. However there’s an extremely strong chance that it could mean both.
With Charlie Cox and Jon Bernthal both returning to the MCU, be certain that Krysten Ritter will follow. As for Mike Colter and Finn Jones, I wouldn’t hold your breath.
