HBO Max is developing a Game of Thrones spin-off series for Kit Harington’s Jon Snow.
Game of Thrones was an HBO series based on the books of George R. R. Martin. Particularly based on the books under the series A Song of Ice and Fire. The television series lasted from 2011 up until 2019. Remarkably, it’s one of the most successful shows on HBO.
Before the series ended, HBO had already been developing spin-off projects. After all, HBO was ending the program with its eighth season. HBO didn’t want the money train to stop.
Most of the shows in discussion were prequels. However, not all them got past the green light. In fact, HBO cancelled a pilot. But so far, one already has an entire season made entitled House of the Dragon. This prequel takes place 200 years before Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon, focusing on House Targaryen, will premiere on August 21, 2022.

The new series in development is actually a spin-off. It’s nothing like the previous proposed series where the timeline is so many years before Game of Thrones. The new series will revolve around Jon Snow. In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, it has said that the program is in early development with Kit Harington ready to reprise his role.
In the final season (Season Eight) of Game of Thrones, we learn that Jon Snow is really Aegon Targaryen. He is the destined heir to the Iron Throne. Jon Snow killed the short-lived queen, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), leading a council to select a new king.
The new king of Westeros became Jon Snow’s step brother, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright). Bran The Broken sent Jon Snow to exile in the Night’s Watch for the rest of his days. The last we see of Jon Snow is when he goes with the wildlings Beyond the Wall. With Tormund (Kristofer Hivju), Jon Snow proceeds to enter the Haunted Forest.
At present, George R. R. Martin hasn’t really written about Jon Snow beyond what has happened in Season Five. A Dance With Dragons ends with the fatal stabbing of Jon Snow. Thus, the show runners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss created Season Six to Eight . The last three seasons did not have material directly from Martin. However, they somewhat aligned the story to the original author’s vision. George R. R. Martin basically relinquished the writing to the show runners so that he could focus on the final books.
Therefore, the show will be an original Jon Snow story.

So far, there are no updates on the other personnel involved. We aren’t sure they’ll bring Martin aboard like House of the Dragon. Also, no show runners are on the list as of yet. We do wonder who we will be seeing back though. If he is exiled, it’s likely that we will see Tormund as he was with Jon Snow at the end.
Kit Harington is currently working on a series called Extrapolations for Apple TV Plus.
Also, Kit Harington will return as the Black Knight for the MCU. Thus, the production schedule may not have any definite time table at the moment.
Marvel Studios has big plans for Kit Harington.
