Marvel Studios is interested in having Josh Brolin back as Cable for the Deadpool franchise.

Through motion capture performance and indelible voice acting, Josh Brolin’s take on the villainous Thanos was one for the ages.

In Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Josh Brolin cemented his legacy in the science-fiction hall of fame.

However, Thanos wasn’t Josh Brolin’s only Marvel role.

Fans praised Josh Brolin for his portrayal of Cable in Deadpool 2. Deadpool even makes jokes about the two roles.

He called Cable “Thanos” at one point in the film since both characters are portrayed by Josh Brolin.

Cable was first mentioned in Ryan Reynolds’ 2016 Deadpool as part of an end credits teaser for the its first sequel.

Still, it was quite a surprise for moviegoers to realize that Josh Brolin was to portray the popular X-Men character from the future.

At that time, Josh Brolin was already playing Thanos in the MCU since 2015’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

And he did quite well, too, since Marvel Studios is interested in getting him back to reprise his role.

In Deadpool 2, Cable is from the future.

His family was killed by a mutant serial killer named Russell.

Cable travels to the past to save his family by killing the younger version of Russell.

This is while he is still a child who hasn’t mastered his dangerous mutant powers.

Cable’s real name is Nathan Summers.

He is the son of Cyclops (Scott Summers) and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s clone).

Writer Chris Claremont created Nathan in 1986 for The Uncanny X-Men No. 201.

But his other persona, Cable, was co-created by writer Louise Simonson and artist Rob Liefeld in 1990 in The New Mutants No. 87.

As a child, he was infected by a Techno-Organic Virus by the mutant Apocalypse.

The virus rapidly spreads liquid metal and organic steel through his body, which can potentially kill him.

Nevertheless, a time traveler from the future appeared to Cyclops named Sister Askani.

She told him that she can save Nathan and heal his illness. Moreover, she claimed that Nathan will be the savior of the future.

But Askani only has enough power to bring Nathan to the future.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t have enough to bring him back.

Cyclops believed that he won’t ever see his child ever again.

Nathan grew up in the future and became the warrior Cable.

Cable returned to the present timeline as an adult sometime before he was born.

He was the reason for reforming the New Mutants and renaming them X-Force.

Furthermore, he is known to fight against Deadpool. They became on-again, off-again allies.

Cable is a mutant just like his parents.

He has the power of telepathy, telekinesis, and time travel.

The virus that he contracted as child transformed portions of his body into organic metal turning him essentially into a cyborg.

Marvel Studios has no problem getting an actor who they have used before as long as they are not recognizable, like Gemma Chan.

Chan was already in the MCU in a minor role as Minn-Erva in Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel (2019) and now she has a main lead role as Sersi in Eternals.

Therefore, it’s not a surprise if they would like to get Josh Brolin back since Cable looks very different from the menacing alien look of Thanos.

Josh Brolin’s original contract with 20th Century Fox signed him for four movies, including Deadpool 2. Disney now owns Fox.

His appearance in Deadpool 2 was planned as an introduction to the character.

Although Marvel Studios want Josh Brolin back, it might not happen in Deadpool 3.

Right now, there is no scheduled release date for the Deadpool threequel, nor do we know about what to expect about it.

Deadpool 2 was already done before the Disney-Fox merger.

Deadpool 3 is now the first movie in the series that will be under the Marvel Studios brand.

Our sources are not sure how Marvel plans to connect the Deadpool franchise with the MCU.

It is certain that Deadpool and Cable are planned to be included in the MCU.

We are not clear whether there will be a portal to get them in the main MCU timeline.

Will Deadpool and friends be variants?

We also do wonder if they will add Domino (Zazie Beetz), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), and Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) in the MCU.

We were all disappointed that X-Force didn’t really get together in Deadpool 2.

The entire X-Force team were there as all major cameos but most of them died before even starting a mission.

In fact, Only Domino survived because of her mutant power of “good luck.”

We are all hoping that somehow the team will get its chance at some point.

Unfortunately, we have not heard any news about X-Force.

We can’t wait to see Deadpool and Cable back on screen again.

It will give Deadpool a chance to make more Thanos jokes, this time within the MCU.

The multiverse is pretty much open now because of the events in the TV series Loki. Marvel Studios can do this in a lot of ways without messing up the MCU main timeline.

It is not known if Marvel Studios has contacted Josh Brolin yet about coming back.

A source added:

I expect Josh Brolin to return as Cable from internal discussions.
