Jon Bernthal has begun his intense training for his long awaited return as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again.
When you think of perfect casting, you’ll likely picture Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man or Chris Evans’ Captain America. Nonetheless, many tend to overlook the actors on the TV side of the Marvel Universe.
It’s impossible to picture anyone other than Charlie Cox as Daredevil or Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Moreover, it’d also be just as hard to see another actor take on the role of The Punisher.
Especially after Jon Bernthal’s phenomenal and heartbreaking performance as the tortured vigilante. The tense rooftop exchange between Jon Bernthal and Charlie Cox in Daredevil Season Two was one for the ages.
In addition to the stellar writing, both actors gave unbelievably chilling performances as their respective characters. The scene also solidified Jon Bernthal as the definitive live action adaptation of Frank Castle.

Furthermore, his inevitable spin-off series gave new layers to already complex anti-hero. Alongside Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Netflix’s The Punisher is considered to be the best of Marvel’s various TV shows.
It’s no surprise that hearts everywhere broke when the show along with Netflix’s other Marvel series were ultimately cancelled. Thankfully the characters would still live on in the MCU.
As expected there were fears that the roles would be recast. This would mean that they’d be losing some serious talent, Kevin Feige wasn’t going to let that happen.
At least not to Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Punisher. Iron Fist will most likely be recast and with good reason.
Years ago, Geekosity scooped that Jon Bernthal would reprise his role in a new Daredevil Disney Plus series. Last month this scoop was officially confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter who broke the exciting news about Bernthal’s return.
As soon as it hit the web, Jon Bernthal and The Punisher unsurprisingly began trending worldwide. Even more so after the actor himself confirmed this via his Instagram.
Although, there were those who are concerned that Disney would soften the character. Not true. Jon Bernthal wouldn’t have agreed to return unless the character stayed true to his roots.
With filming on Daredevil: Born Again underway, fans are eagerly awaiting Jon Bernthal’s arrival to the set. However, it turns out that the actor is currently undergoing intense training for his long awaited return.
Via Instagram, Jon Bernthal’s trainer posted a video of himself and the actor in the ring. In the caption attached to the video he wrote:
“How many ppl can say they’ve held pads for [the Punisher] himself? AkA Jon Bernthal. Also known as Shane walsh Mr.Take yo chick during an apocalypse! PSA Don’t put him in none of those Celebrity Boxing matches b4 he tko somebody and end they actin career… HE GOT HANDS!”
Frank Castle’s role in Daredevil: Born Again will likely lead into a new Punisher TV series. A while ago, Geekosity’s Mikey Sutton scooped that a new Punisher show was being developed for Disney Plus.
