Joe Quesada Signs Huge First-Look Film And Television Deal With Amazon

Joe Quesada has signed a huge first-look film and television deal with Amazon for new and existing comic book IPs.

Aside from Marvel Studios, Amazon Prime has been dominating comic book adaptations on the small screen as of late. One of their flagship series The Boys, has taken the world by storm since it’s premiere in 2019.

Rather than sticking to the generic superhero formula like other shows, The Boys is more of a political satire. In addition, Amazon Prime also has an animated superhero TV series in it’s library, Invincible.

Based on The Walking Dead’s creator Robert Kirkman’s classic comic book series of the same name. Upon their respective announcements, hype wasn’t as high as it could’ve been.

Nonetheless, both of these shows have proven to be colossal successes for the streaming service. Furthermore, it’s now been reported that Amazon Prime is hoping to double down on it’s comic book content.

So much so that it’s now been confirmed that Marvel Comic’s former editor-in-chief Joe Quesada has joined forces with them. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Joe Quesada has signed an exclusive first-look comic book movie and television deal with Amazon.

This deal will see Quesada adapt new and existing comic book IPs into films and TV shows for the service. Posting via their website, The Hollywood Reporter revealed:

“Joe Quesada, the former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief and ex-Marvel Entertainment chief creative officer, has signed an exclusive first-look film and television deal with the retail giant. Under the deal, Quesada will focus on adapting existing and new comic book IP for the Jennifer Salke-led streamer.”

A statement from the head of U.S. owned development at Amazon Nick Pepper was issued along with the report. Pepper expressed his excitement at having Joe Quesada on board saying:

“Joe has been a singular and influential creative force guiding some of the most iconic storytelling that exists today, the opportunity to bring his expertise and vision to Amazon Studios presents a world of possibilities and we can’t wait to see what he brings to life next.”

A follow up statement from Joe Quesada hind was also included in the announcement. Like Nick Pepper, he too was very excited about this new partnership. He explained:

“I can’t begin to express just how thrilled I am to be joining the Amazon Studios family, from the moment Nick Pepper, Matt King and the team approached me, it was clear we spoke the same language and shared the same creative goals. What was also clear is that they’re creating a collaborative environment and unique methodology that I’m surprised no one has yet thought to implement, but I’m certain will be quickly imitated.”

Moreover, he’ll also likely be heavily involved with Sony’s planned live action Spider-Man spinoff series that are currently in development. Two TV series respectively based on Marvel’s Silk and Spider-Man Noir will debut on Amazon Prime in the coming years.
