HBO to Launch Two More Game of Thrones Spin-Offs
HBO has increased the number of its Game of Thrones animated spin-offs.

The cable network is still riding the success of Game of Thrones, which ran from 2011-2019.

HBO wasn’t shy to extend its life by making six spin-off series based George R.R. Martin’s books, A Song of Ice and Fire.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that there will be two more programs; moreover, neither of which are live action.

The two shows are animated.

This makes three animated series that are being developed for Game of Thrones.

The first show was announced earlier this year and was already in early development.

All three animated series will be made for mature audiences.

This is possibly because of the rise of interest in adult-themed animation like Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, Netflix’s Trese, and Amazon’s Invincible.

One of the animated shows will be set in The Golden Empire of Yi Ti, which is part of the eastern side of the continent of Essos.

The main novels focused mostly on the continent of Westeros, which is inspired by medieval Europe. Yi Ti, however, is inspired by Imperial China.

Nothing is known about the two other programs, but with the lore that Game of Thrones has, there are a lot of speculations on what the show will be about.

One spin-off series, though, was cancelled. Flea Bottom was planned as a live-action series which was supposed to be focused on a specific area in King’s Landing where crime and poverty takes center stage.

We do know that one spin-off is already in production: House of the Dragon.

This is a prequel to the main story of Game of Thrones. The program will be based on the book Fire & Blood. This will tell the story of the Targaryen Civil War.

The series is created by Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony). The show stars Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno and Fabien Frankel.

House of the Dragon is scheduled to be released on HBO with 10 episodes in 2022.

Another show which is based on Martin’s Tales of the Dunk & Egg is also set in the world of Game of Thrones.

This was already in discussion with HBO since early 2013; furthermore, it was announced in early 2021 that it is already in early development.

It is set 90 years before A Song of Ice and Fire. This will follow the story of Ser Duncan the Tall and Prince Aagon Targaryen.

9 Voyages is planned but it depends on the success of House of the Dragon because Steve Toussaint will be the lead actor for the show.

He will portray Corlys Valaryon, a.k.a. the Sea Snake. This will revolve on his character; moreover, it’s focused on his Great Voyages.

10,000 Ships is set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones. This tells the story of Princess Nymeria of the Rhoyne.

She commanded 10,000 ships from Essos and journeyed to Dorne. She married Lord Mors Martell; together they ruled over Dorne.

Even though Game of Thrones ended with a bad taste to a lot of fans, it still has made an impact. It’s the most successful show HBO has ever made.

The majority of the seasons was well told with excellent storytelling. Game of Thrones even broke records with the amount of viewership.

It is understandable why they want to make several shows for the franchise.

We do look forward to what HBO will come up with since the world of Game of Thrones has such a rich deep, well-developed history from the mind of Martin.

We just hope that they don’t rush the story telling as soon as they ran out of material to base it off from.

Martin’s sixth novel for the series is titled The Winds of Winter which still hasn’t been released.

His latest works involve writing for a video game, Elden Ring (2022), and is going to produce a series for AMC called Dark Winds, based on a book by Tony Hillerman.
