Gina Carano's Controversial Firing Could Lead To Pointless Recasting

Gina Carano’s firing as Cara Dune on The Mandalorian could lead to a pointless recasting of the character. While Disney’s era of Star Wars projects has so far been divisive, there’s undoubtedly been more good content than bad.

The sequel trilogy sadly didn’t manage to meet everyone’s expectations. Nonetheless, the live-action Disney Plus TV series have surprisingly exceeded them. The most prominent and iconic of which being the service’s first show, The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian did what the sequels unfortunately couldn’t for Star Wars. It gave new life to the classic sci-fi franchise and immediately left fans both old and new enamored. Moreover, the show helped launch Disney’s new streaming service in the stratosphere.

Upon release, The Mandalorian received heaps of praise from fans and critics for it’s writing, cast and characters Particularly its main duo, the Mandalorian himself Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and the instantly popular and now iconic Grogu.

However, several of the show’s supporting characters have become favorites among Star Wars fans. One of which being Gina Carano’s bad ass rebel warrior, Cara Dune. The character made her debut in the fourth episode of Season One.

Viewers immediately took a liking to Dune for her wit, physical presence, and on-screen combat abilities. Furthermore, Disney even had a spin-off in mind for Gina Carano’s character called Rangers of the New Republic. Unfortunately, these plans were soon dashed when Disney fired Gina Carano for making insensitive posts on social media.

One of which included comparing her republican views to the treatment of Jewish people who suffered during the Holocaust.

Disgusting.

That was the final straw for Gina Carano and with that, Cara Dune, was erased from any future Star Wars projects. Even merchandise featuring the character was cancelled and recalled.

Fans hoped that Disney would recast the character but the studio later confirmed that there were no such plans. A recent report has suggested otherwise, though. According to Giant Freakin’ Robot, Lucasfilm is now reportedly open to recasting the character.

GFR revealed:

“According to our trusted and proven sources, the part vacated by the former Mandalorian star is up for grabs and will likely be recast with a similarly physically imposing actress.”

Despite the controversy surrounding Gina Carano, Cara Dune was a welcome addition to the galaxy of lovable characters in Star Wars.

On the other hand, the replacement would live under Gina Carano’s shadow. Dune’s popularity was rooted in Carano’s own. It remains to be seen if lightning can strike twice.
