Director Sam Raimi dropped new details about America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Amanda Chavez’ inclusion in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens the door to another of the Young Avengers.

Most recently, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop debuted in Disney Plus’ Hawkeye. One by one, Marvel Studios introduces the Young Avengers.

In an interview, Raimi discussed who America Chavez is in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Fandango released a recent Q&A with Raimi. It showcases the filmmaker’s unique insights into his first MCU film. A good part of the query showed him featuring Xochitl Gomez’ America Chavez and her dynamics with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.

Raimi described America Chavez as a contrast to Doctor Strange. In addition, she delivers youth appeal in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Raimi explained how America Chavez and Doctor Strange relate to one another. Raimi stated:

She’s a newcomer to her powers and to our world. She actually comes from another universe. I think she brings a sense of lightness and youth. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange can be a very egotistical and stuffy character, a know-it-all. She just flies in the face of that.

Furthermore, Raimi admitted that America Chavez “doesn’t really have respect for him originally. She sees right through the fronts that he puts up. She’s much more down-to-earth and one of us, and she doesn’t take his attitude. I don’t think he likes that at first. So, she creates a contrast.”

Marvel Comics described America Chavez as someone who was born in the stars. As an inter-dimensional superhero, she never backs down from a fight, stomps star-shaped holes between planes of existence and champions what is right for her home country.

America Chavez initially appeared in Vengeance No. 1. In the comics, she is actually the second character to use the name Miss America. The first one was Madeline Joyce. Chavez eventually joined the Young Avengers. Afterwards, she had her own comic-book series entitled America.

America Chavez is Marvel Comics’ first Latin-American LGBTQ+ character to have her own series.

The trailer shows a glimpse of America Chavez’s power. Her hands and feet are tied but one can see behind her a star-shaped portal. Specifically, the time stamp 0:13 of the trailer released last month showed the star behind her.

Moreover, the trailer itself unveiled various scenes where she fights alongside Doctor Strange. They crossed different universes. Beyond that, she was also there in Kamar-Taj as well as on the city streets fighting Gargantos.

Without a doubt, America Chavez plays a key role Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. For one thing, her inter-dimensional powers will be instrumental in helping Doctor Strange. With her on his side, he will be able to fix things. It’ll be a different level of “Scooby-Dooing.”

Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Elizabeth Olsen join them in the cast. There is also the possibility that some characters other than Doctor Strange will meet their alternate selves. Wanda Maximoff (Olsen) is already featured with two characters in one frame in the trailer. There is a chance that she will meet more too.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cracks the MCU wide open on May 6.
