Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk Heads To MCU’s Wonder Man

Written By Kieran Bugg

Marvel Studios has phoned Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk for Disney Plus’ Wonder Man series. Like Moon Knight and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Wonder Man focuses on a fringe Marvel Comics superhero. Without a doubt, this series centers around one of their more lesser-known characters.

Wonder who?

A.K.A. Simon Williams, Wonder Man was the son of a rich industrialist and was originally an enemy of the Avengers. Nonetheless, he would later join the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and would also develop a relationship with the Scarlet Witch. He would later go on to become an actor, which will likely be a major part of his upcoming TV show.

Ben Kingsley returns as Trevor Slattery in Wonder Man. In the MCU, Slattery is a drunken actor who posed as The Mandarin in Iron Man 3. He later reappeared in last year’s Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. Seeing as Williams is also an actor, it would make sense that the two crossed paths.

Aquaman‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has the title role. Still, Marvel Studios isn’t finished with the casting yet. In fact, Bob Odenkirk is probably the big catch here. Odenkirk won over audiences in Breaking Bad and its prequel, Better Call Saul. Odenkirk’s sketchy lawyer Saul Goodman electrified both dramas. It became Odenkirk’s breakout role.

Via The Illuminerdi, Marvel Studios is after Odenkirk. However, they don’t know what role Marvel Studios seeks for him. Nevertheless, they speculate on a possibility. They believe there’s a good chance that Odenkirk is portraying Williams’ manipulative acting agent, Neal Saroyan.

The character first appeared in Wonder Man No. 1 back in July 1991. The Illuminerdi added more details. They explained:

Neal Saroyan also ends up being a criminal mastermind with some psychic powers in later runs. In the world of the MCU, that would not be out of place. However, there is no evidence to say the role is Neal Saroyan, and there is no guarantee Bob Odenkirk will take the role or that he has been given a full offer, as talks are still early in the process. But given the news and the history of the characters connected to Wonder Man, it makes sense the manager role could be Neal Saroyan.

Better Call Saul concluded on August 15. Therefore, its absence creates a wide opening in Odenkirk’s schedule. Sounds perfect.
