Aubrey Plaza brings villainy to the WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Casting for Disney Plus’ Agatha: Coven of Chaos has been in full swing recently. The series starring Kathryn Hahn is only a year away from its scheduled debut. A month ago, production announced Emma Caulfield’s return as Sarah Proctor. She was Dottie Jones in the Scarlet Witch’s Hex reality in Westview.

Then, just a few days ago, Joe Locke of Netflix’s Heartstopper joined the cast as well. For now, his role is under wraps. Nonetheless, Locke likely plays the Scarlet Witch’s son Wiccan.

Presently, actress comedian Aubrey Plaza joins the growing cast. Plaza herself is a star of her own. Audiences know her for her part in the TV comedy Parks and Recreation. Plaza also dabbled into Marvel before in Fox’s X-Men TV show Legion. But this is her MCU debut.

She has starred in films like Safety Not Guaranteed (2012), Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010), and Life After Beth (2014). She has also produced films like Black Bear (2020) and Emily the Criminal (2022).

Aubrey Plaza’s role in Agatha: Coven of Chaos still remains a secret. Rumor has it that she’ll be playing a villain against Hahn’s Agatha Harkness. Although, this has no official news or confirmation just yet and Marvel Studios won’t say anything at this time. Typical for Marvel Studios these days. As any day for that matter.

WandaVision introduced Harkness to the MCU. The show starred Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany who reprised their Marvel roles as the Scarlet Witch and Vision. Hahn’s performance won over audiences and even got some attention with the song “Agatha All Along.

The last time we saw her in WandaVision, Olsen puts Hahn under her spell. The events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have tragic consequences for the Scarlet Witch. We could presume that this event released Harkness from her spell. Harkness herself is not really a villain, since we really just saw everything from the Scarlet Witch’s point of view. Yes, Harkness uses her evil ways, but in her perception, she had justifiable reasons for doing what she did. In the comics, Harkness is a powerful witch that helps the heroes of the Marvel Universe. The series may redeem her position from a villain to that of a hero.
