Ant-Man Director Praises Concept Art For Fantastic Four Reboot

Ant-Man director Peyton Reed has seen concept art for Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four reboot and only has high praise for it.

Audiences from around the world know Reed today for helming all of the Ant-Man films. However, he is also known for other films like Kirsten Dunst’s Bring It On.

As a veteran director for Marvel Studios, he was able to check out the concept art for the future Fantastic Four film. And as an avid fan of the Fantastic Four himself, Marvel Studios’ plans impressed him as he saw what they wanted to achieve. During an interview, he said:

Matt Shakman is gonna do great. And I’ve seen initial artwork for the Fantastic Four – stuff around the Marvel offices… It’s gonna be great.

Although we wish that he could have given us more information about it, but he couldn’t as he’s under an NDA. We can’t expect him to reveal anything at this time. Although, his vote of confidence is a good sign.

Not a lot of people know that Reed also tried working on a Fantastic Four film before he got Ant-Man. Reed has admitted that he was working on it with 20th Century Fox back in 2002 or 2003. He was passionate about Marvel’s first family. Reed has also said that at the time, Kevin Feige was an Associate Producer for Marvel-related films. Feige was behind X-Men (2000) and Spider-Man (2002). So, Feige knows about Reed’s interest in the Fantastic Four.

What’s interesting is that Reed planned the film to be set in the ’60s, which is the same period of the comic’s debut. The movie they planned didn’t have an origin story.  It was going to establish that the Fantastic Four were already there. Reed really wanted to make the film, his excitement was undeniable. For a time, he thought Fox would actually let him film it.

Unfortunately, Fox wanted a different take on the characters. Years later we got the ones that starred Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Jessica Alba under Tim Story’s direction.

Casting for the new MCU Fantastic Four is currently ongoing. We’ve reported before that John Krasinski might return as Reed Richards. But we have yet still to hear any official confirmation on that. That, and Jodie Comer could possibly be cast as Sue Storm. There are also rumors that Adam Driver could get the role of Richards or Doctor Doom. So far, no solid information about the casting at this time.

It would have been interesting to see what Reed planned for a ’60s Fantastic Four film. It’s good to know that he highly approves of Shakman’s direction in the upcoming movie. As it appears, it sounds like Marvel’s first family is in good hands.
